In memory of...A Perfect Day

Back in January 2020, I had the pleasure of meeting Belinda Vidor. I was researching Carmel Art Association artists and found my way to her cottage in the heart of Carmel. I only met Belinda on that one occasion, but as I stood outside her cottage door, and heard rock music blasting from her stereo it became abundantly clear; this is how a ninety year old should live!

The daughter of silent film actress Eleanor Boardman and the celebrated film director King Vidor meant Belinda had an unusual childhood. She recounted her favorite charades partner had been Charlie Chaplin, and that later in life all she really needed to be happy was her daily painting practise and her dog.

Upon reading her obituary today, I remembered our meeting. Seldom can you cover so much ground, so quickly with a person you just meet.

Sometimes when we travel or venture even just a few miles away, we meet people who inspire us. I hope to purchase one of Belinda's artworks, so to remind me of that lovely winter morning when our paths crossed... It was a perfect day.
