DUOTONE ASSIGNMENT:

WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT:
Using the internet and a good search engine like google.com or ask.com research duotones and write 2-3 paragraphs (250-500 words) explaining your findings. You may focus on any part of the duotone (history, techniques, masters of...) You may also include an example of urls that were especially helpful. Send to me in email format.

GRAPHIC ASSIGNMENT
gallery> see duotone examples for hw3.

Duotone Image:
1.
Using at least two sources of photographic imagry, and the compositing techniques that you learned by using Photoshop's Selection tools in lesson 2, cut out part(s) of one photograph and merge with another. Make sure your composite has clean edges, and is scaled appropriately, and that you save your file as a .psd (photoshop file) as you work. Edit your image (composite, crop, size, adjust levels, and perform other image correction techniques covered in this weeks tutorials...) before going to step 2. Work with an image approximately 5x7, or no larger than 8x10.

2.
Make a duotone by following these steps:
From the image menu - select mode> grayscale. You may be prompted to merge layers (it isn't necessary) and you must discard the color information (select discard).

3.
From the image menu - select >mode, then select>duotone. From the TYPE drop down menu in the duotone window select>duotone which will enable you to chose a color to make the duotone.

4.
You will need to adjust the color mode in order to save as a jpeg. Go to the Image menu>mode>select rgb.

Save as a jpeg (see video in this lesson to learn how to save jpgs).

5.
Practice making several duotones, and choose your best one and send it to me. Remember this homework is worth 9 points.

Send your homework (jpeg format) as an attachment via email. In the subject field of the email put your last name and first initial with the number of the assignment.

Example: McIntosh J-Homework 3
Please use this format for each assignment that you email me throughout the semester.
